Recognizing contributions

How should we address the question of recognition for creating resources that are useful for teaching and learning?  What sort of contributions need to be recognized?  What recognition is effective?  Badges?  Status category?  a certiicate?  other?  How important are these things and how can they best be designed to make the greatest impact?
