Collect more content (including software, algorithms) for Ensemble using crawling or OAI harvesting (including from wikis)

Work with the GRAs and VT faculty (Fox, Edwards, Shaffer) as part of our effort to develop the Ensemble portal, in concert with the 5 other partners in Ensemble, led by PI Lillian Cassel of Villanova. Focus on working with the communities identified in the proposal and others supporting the project (e.g., publishers), to include content on their web sites and collections. Where possible help set up a permanent harvesting connection using OAI-PMH. Include especially software and data stored in wikis. NOTE: If another group works on CS4624S09P-AlgoViz, then there won't be a need to handle wikis, and Dr. Shaffer won't need to be involved.

  • Contact person and their contact information: Lillian Cassel (bootsprojects@gmail.com), Stephen Edwards (edwards@cs.vt.edu), Clifford Shaffer (shaffer@cs.vt.edu)
  • Project deliverables: large amount of additional content accessible through Ensemble and thence NSDL (National Science Digital Library)
  • Expected impact of the project: increase use of the Ensemble system by having more good content available, help contributors disseminate their works, improve computing education, help the communities providing the content
  • Required skills of the team engaging in the project: interest in CS education
