Textbook Title:

Schaum's Outlines: Operating Systems

We have a merged Operating Systems and Computer Networks course and I decided to go with the Schaum's Outlines for the two textbooks with these titles at $18 each (much less online/used). Also there are free e-book downloads for various Schaum's Outlines. The OS text has all the traditional presentation of a classic expensive text, but more concise and full of answered exercises. This works well for today's student who is more likely to skim wordy classic texts.

Programming from the Ground Up

Programming from the Ground Up by Jonathan Bartlett is a free book that could be used to teach an introductory computer science course that starts with assembly language.

I haven't used this book yet, but I'd like to try it at some point.
