Computing Ontology use for educational resources

The computing ontology project website: http://what.csc.villanova.edu/twiki/bin/view/Main/OntologyProject
The ontology is a developing project, but the ontology itself will always be evolving.
Making the ontology serve as a useful tool for describing educational materials requires that developers identify the content area addressed by their resources. We hope that this will allow people to find the most relevant materials for their purposes.

There is an ongoing project to find an effective way to provide a visual interface to the ontology. We have a home-grown project that can be seen at http://what.csc.villanova.edu/~harsha/flash/August08/augustVersion6.swf
We are also exploring using PersonalBrain as an interface tool. (http://www.thebrain.com/)

Work over the past year has made it clear that there must be distinct interfaces for various purposes. We need a base representation of the ontology that can be used for several purposes. A tricky part of that is the need for the relationships in the ontology to vary according to the need. That means that we have several distinct projects to develop a version of the ontology, built on one base, to serve specific purposes.
