ensemble web page mockup #2

ensemble web page mockup #2

This tries to reconcile some of the best ideas from Bob's draft and my draft. In particular:

  • I went with an off-white background because I found that the white arch images didn't pop out as nicely
  • I removed the CO and put our mantra at the bottom
  • I found a new image for community: http://www.istockphoto.com/microsoftclipartimages?xc=j0438475&LLCC=en-US
  • I reordered the arches: community->collections->tools (in the same order as our mantra on the bottom ... yay)
  • I shifted NSDLs logo up and moved "computing pathway" down so it wasn't floating
  • I changed the tabs. I didn't like "about us" -- it should be "about ensemble", added back the "suggestion box" and kept my "login"
  • The font is arial black and arial narrow
  • I removed the black line below the arches

This is really progressing very nicely. Many thanks to all who are participating.

I am having trouble keeping track of what is the most recent suggestion. I asked Bob to put his mockups in this area so we have them all in one place and can look at the various versions.

Some thoughts about the most recent (I think) version from Dan. I don't have the tools to do an edit to suggest something.
The top area seems rather empty. Perhaps if the "Computing Pathway" title was raised a bit, that might help?
We still have not decided how to handle our search options. Right now we have three types of search. I think we are trying to merge two of them, but the federated search really cannot be merged with the others because of the effect on search time. So, what is the plan for what happens when someone puts a query in the search box? What happens then? How do we present the search options in a way that is meaningful to the user and serves the user's needs?
The search box as done now is rather removed from everything else. Can it be lowered to be a bit closer to the tabs?
Personally, I like the communities showing real people, but that is just a personal preference. It is not a big deal.
Again, thanks to all who are contributing to this effort.
